ALONSO ALVAREZ BARREDA
Born in Mexico City and raised in the town of Tampico, Tamaulipas, Alonso Alvarez-Barreda is an award-winning Mexican director and writer whose critically acclaimed short films have been featured in festivals around the world.
Alvarez-Barreda shot his first project with a $50 budget. That short film, Historia de un Letrero, went on to win the prestigious Best Short Film Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008.
His second short film, El Descubrimiento (The Finding), follows a father and son forced to cope with life after a tragic death and is widely considered one of the most powerful cinematic statements against domestic violence.
Alvarez-Barreda was later selected from hundreds of filmmakers around the world to participate in the HBOAccess® Directing Fellowship, which gives emerging directors from underrepresented groups the opportunity to direct a project for HBO. He was also selected for the Fox Global Directors Initiative Program, where he had the opportunity to shadow several television productions including Quarry, Rosewood, and Snowfall.
He has since directed episodes of Snowfall, Party of Five, 9-1-1, The Chi, The Twilight Zone, Coyote, and Mayans M.C.
Next, Alvarez-Barreda is set to begin production on his first feature film, The Wingwalker, starring Mexican star Omar Chaparro and Academy Award® nominee Adriana Barraza.
